The Isle of Arran sits in the Firth of Clyde, between the Mull of Kintyre and the Lowlands. An island with a long history of whisky-making, some of it illicit, since the 18th century.

The distillery is in the village of Lochranza, started operations in 1995 with funding from private investors, and Harold Currie, a former managing director at Chivas Brothers, as the founder. The distillery produces different types of malts throughout the year, unpeated (46 weeks) medium peated, 20 ppm (4 weeks), and heavily peated, 50 ppm (2 weeks) with creamy, dessert-like flavor as the main style of the house.

Tasting notes for Arran 10 years old Scotch Single Malt

This expression was released in 2006 and is part of the standard range of single malts comprised of Barrel Reserve, Sherry Cask-The Bodega, Quarter Cask-The Bothy, 18 years old, and 21 years old.

Nose: Delicate herbal, apple, malt grain, and melon aromas. No detectable smoke on the nose.

Palate: A 65 hrs fermentation, the shape and set up of the pot stills with long and narrow lyne arms, and a shell and tube condenser (as opposed to worm tub) was an early indication of the profile of Arran 10. Sweet and fresh single malt rich in fruit and honey.

Finish: Unexpected beautiful long finish with fruits for a relatively young single malt. Outstanding!

Conclusion:An impressive single malt with and honey-citrus character stands out from other malts in that age range. Non-chilled filtered and with no E150a (caramel coloring) should please the most demanding Scotch Whisky connoisseurs.

Great value for those looking for a sweet, non-peated single malt with complexity and fruity character at an affordable price. Slainte!
